                    IconEdit 1.0 Installation instructions
================================================================================

Please read this document carefully before installing IconEdit. If you do not
install IconEdit according to the instructions in this document, your IconEdit
installation may not work correctly.

Introduction
============
Due to a bug in Symbian's installation program, some programs have problems
installing updates if the program depends on external components that need be
installed as well. Since IconEdit depends on two extension libraries that are
installed together with the main program, IconEdit also suffers from this
problem. The text below describes how to install IconEdit correctly.

Installing IconEdit 1.0
=======================

Uninstall previous IconEdit versions
---------------------------------
If you have a previous version of IconEdit installed, you need to uninstall it
prior to installing IconEdit 1.0. To uninstall a previous IconEdit version:

- press the 'Desk'-key on your Communicator;
- Select 'Tools' and then 'Control Panel';
- If you own a 9300/9500, in Control Panel, navigate to the 'Data management'
  folder, press the right arrow key and select 'Application manager'. On a 9210,
  in Control Panel, select the "Install/Remove" icon.
- In Application manager locate 'IconEdit' and press the 'Remove' button;
- When prompted "About to uninstall 'IconEdit'. Are you sure?", press the "Ok"
  button.

The previous IconEdit version will now be removed from your Communicator. Don't
worry about your IconEdit settings. Due to another bug in Symbian's installation
program, your IconEdit settings will not be removed.

Install the OPL runtime
-----------------------
Since IconEdit was written in OPL, it needs the OPL runtime. If you installed a
previous version of IconEdit before or if you have other OPL applications
installed on your Communicator, you don't need to install the OPL runtime. If
you don't know if the OPL runtime is installed on your device, open 'Control
Panel'. If you own a 9300/9500, start the 'Application manager' from the 'Data
management' folder. If you own a 9210, navigate to the "Install/Remove" icon and
press Enter. If you can find 'OPL Runtime[thumb]' in the list of installed
programs and the version number behind it is 1.53 or higher, you don't need to
install the OPL runtime. If the OPL runtime is not installed on your device or
the installed version is not 1.53 or higher, you need to install the file "9500
-opl-public  -2004-11-28.sis" or  "9200-opl-public-2004-02-29.sis" (the  correct
file is included in the zip-file). Here's how to install this file:

- Extract the correct OPL runtime installation file to your PC or Communicator;
- If you extracted it to your PC, navigate to the extracted file with Windows
  Explorer and double click on the file. This will launch the Nokia installer
  which will install the OPL runtime;
- If you extracted the file directly to your Communicator, locate it with the
  built-in File manager application and click the 'Open' button. This will also
  launch the Nokia installer;
- During installation you will see an "Installation security warning" stating
  that the installation cannot be verified and that you will install at your own
  risk. Since it is perfectly safe to install the OPL runtime, you can click the
  "Install anyway" button;
- When installing on a 9300/9500 the next warning you see during installation is
  "The file you are trying to install may not be compatible with this device".
  It is safe to ignore this warning and press the "Yes" button to continue
  installation.

The current IconEdit distribution package contains the version 1.53 of the OPL
runtime. The latest version of the OPL runtime can always be found at
http://opl-dev.sourceforge.net

Install IconEdit 1.0
--------------------
After successfully uninstalling the previous IconEdit version, and optionally
installing the OPL runtime, you can install IconEdit 1.0, by installing the file
"IconEdit_S80_v1.0.sis" or "IconEdit_92xx_v1.0.sis" to your Communicator. During
the installation you will also see the "Installation security warning" 3 times
(for the main application and for the two additional extension libraries), but
as with the installation of the OPL runtime, it is safe to click the "Install
anyway" button.
